Five years ago, Mill Farm was exactly what it sounds like, a working family farm, nothing more, nothing less. Today, alongside the farming we’ve always done, we’re also a well-established container and vehicle storage business, trusted by homeowners, businesses and families across the local area.
It’s been a journey we’re proud of, and one that’s stayed true to where it started.
A small idea on a working farm
Like a lot of good ideas, ours started small. We had space on the farm that wasn’t being used to its full potential and a growing number of people in the local community who needed somewhere secure to store their belongings. It made sense to put the two together.
What began as a handful of containers has grown steadily over the years into a proper storage business, but it’s never stopped being a working farm first.
Growing without losing what matters
As the storage side of things has grown, we’ve been careful not to lose the values that come with being a family-run farm. We’re still the same people you’ll speak to on the phone or bump into on-site. We still believe a friendly conversation is the best way to figure out what someone actually needs, rather than pushing them into a one-size-fits-all solution.
That’s meant a lot of listening to homeowners who just need a bit of extra space, to business owners who need somewhere reliable and secure, and to families going through moves, renovations or simply life getting a bit fuller than expected.
What five years has taught us
A few things have stuck with us over the last five years:
- People want to deal with people. Not call centres, not automated systems, a real conversation with someone who understands their situation.
- Trust is built slowly and it’s worth protecting. Many of our customers come to us through word of mouth, which tells us we must be doing something right.
- Farming and storage aren’t as different as you’d think. Both are about looking after what people rely on, day in and day out.
Looking ahead
We’re proud of what Mill Farm has become, but we’re not finished. We’re always looking at how we can better serve our local community, whether that’s more storage options, better facilities or simply making the whole process easier for our customers.
